The Argentine rider Valentín Perrone, only 17 years old, had a troubled debut in Moto 3, the third category of MotoGP, having to retire in the Grand Prix of Thailand. Perrone, who started from twenty-first position, was in sixteenth place and about to enter the points zone when he collided with Thai rider Tatchakorn Buasri. After the race, Perrone commented: "It wasn't the first race I expected, but I can be quite satisfied with the start I made. I was in position 16, closing the gap with the group ahead, but another rider tried to overtake me and fell right in front, and I couldn't avoid him. We learned a lot today, so we look forward to the next race in Argentina."
The victory in the Grand Prix of Thailand went to the experienced Spaniard José Antonio Rueda, who now has 41 races in the category. The next Moto 3 event will be in Argentina, at the Termas de Río Hondo circuit, from March 14 to 16.
As for the main category, MotoGP, six-time world champion Marc Márquez had a perfect start to the season by winning both the Sprint Race and the main race of the GP of Thailand. Márquez, a multiple MotoGP world champion, started from pole position but temporarily ceded the lead to his brother Alex due to tire issues. However, he managed to regain first position with three laps to go, thus consolidating a perfect weekend in terms of results.
Behind the Márquez brothers, Italian Francesco Bagnaia completed the podium. Other riders who scored points in the race were Franco Morbidelli, Ai Ogura, Pedro Acosta, Fabio Quartararo, Brad Binder, Joan Mir, Johann Zarco, Raúl Fernández, Marco Bezzecchi, Fermín Aldeguer, Maverick Viñales, and Luca Marini.
